Saint John, NB, Canada 8/3/10- After picking up a win in his last outing behind the wheel of his #23 A. E. McKay Builders/Pub’s Bottle Exchange Chevy Impala Lonnie Sommerville will not only head into this weekend’s Atlantic CAT 250 at the Scotia Speedworld as a recent race winner, but he will also be going into the second of the three Triple Crown events as the defending Atlantic CAT 250 champion. Knowing this the Saint John, NB driver knows that the target will be on his back the entire weekend, but that just fine with him.

“Anytime you win at your home track in front of your local fans it’s a good feeling, but now we have to focus on repeating at Scotia which this year looks like we’ll have our work cut out for us; but I have a good race team and we’re up to the challenge,” stated Sommerville. “We plan on testing on Thursday and going back with that same package we won the race with last year and tuning on our car from there. It should be an interesting weekend, but all the 250’s seem to be like that.”

The extra work that Lonnie is referring to will be in the form of several Americans; both Cassius Clark and Ben Rowe hailing from the state of Maine will travel north of the border to compete in the 250 lap event. PASS North points leader Johnny Clark has also been rumored as a possible competitor vying for the unique dump truck trophy. All the names mentioned above in addition to tour regulars will be one tough nut to crack and Sommerville knows that, but having competed in the U.S. more than his home country of Canada so far in 2010 it just gives the race a more competitive feel.

“It’s nice to see guys like Ben (Rowe) and Cassius (Clark) come up to this race; the way the rules are set up that’s what the Triple Crown was designed to do. Hopefully these guys from Maine will start making their way up here every year to all of our Triple Crown races because all of our Triple Crown events are always good shows that pay good money,” added Lonnie. “I raced against both of those guys just last week at Thompson and anytime you race against Ben it’s fun because he knows how and when to race hard; not to mention he left Thompson with the win so I’m hoping I can return the favor when he leaves Scotia.”

Activities for the Atlantic CAT 250 at the Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, NS kick off Friday August 6th with qualifying for the high horse powered super late models. The 250 lap event will get the green flag the following day Saturday August 7th . For more information including tickets and start times visit www.scotiaspeedworld.ca.
